Physical Therapy

Goal of PT evaluation: Evaluate how your child moves and performs functional activities in his or her daily life.

Physical Therapy interventions may address:

  • Sports-related injuries
  • Decreased flexibility
  • Range of motion impairments
  • Poor Balance/coordination
  • Motor planning skills
  • Endurance training
  • Gait training
  • Orthoses or other medical equipment use (wheelchairs, walkers)

Occupational Therapy

Goal of OT Evaluation: Analyze a child’s overall functional performance to identify strengths/limitations interfering with functional abilities, and provide adaptations to promote functional independence.

Occupational therapy treatment could address:

  • Sensory processing or modulation issues (desensitization or stimulation to different sensations)
  • Fine motor skills (handwriting, hand-eye coordination, motor planning)
  • Learning skills  (visual perception, attention)
  • Self-care skills (dressing, hygiene, cooking)
  • Psychosocial skills  (play, socialization)
  • Oral motor skills (feeding)

Speech Language Pathology

Goal of SLP evaluation: Identify the strengths and limitations of your child’s overall communication skills.

 Speech therapy interventions could address:

  • Articulation skills
  • Speech fluency
  • Social communication
  • Word finding difficulties
  • Language-based learning difficulties
  • Structural language impairments
  • Swallowing difficulties during feeding (dysphagia)
  • Stuttering
  • Apraxia
  • Cognitive impairments (executive functioning, memory, attention, sequencing)
  • Assistive technology
